StarKnight Desktop Theme

green globe If you're not sure what a desktop theme is, let me explain. If you are using MS Windows 95/98/2000 then your computer's desktop, wallpaper, and mouse pointer can all follow a specific theme. In this case, we're going with our favorite game, StarKnights. Included in this StarKnights theme are the following: Wallpaper, Cursors, Icons, Startup screen, Wait screen, Shutdown screen, and Sounds. A few of the sounds were made by Michael Barbieri, a.k.a. Basher. Basher also created the live battle sounds for KnightSoft's MetalKnights.

Installing the StarKnights desktop theme

green globe Installing the SK desktop theme is easy. It is a self-extracting zip file. All of the files should be unzipped to
C:\Program Files\Plus!\themes\StarKnight Theme\. If you're not using WinZip, then you may need to create the directories manually, copy sktheme.exe to C:\Program Files\Plus!\themes\StarKnight Theme\ and run program from there.

To change your desktop theme

green globe 4. If you do not want to use one of the theme's desktop items, make sure its check box is clear.

green globe ***If Desktop Themes is missing from Control Panel, click Related Topics for Help on how to install themes. You can customize an existing theme by changing different desktop elements. You can also create a new theme by saving your changes to an existing theme under a new name.

Startup and Shutdown Sceens

green globe An extra part of this theme is the startup/shutdown screens. There are 3 screens that are included here:
Startup, Shutting Down, Shutdown Complete.

green globe These 3 files will replace the original Windows 95/98/2000 screens that you see when your starting or shutting down windows.
These files are located in the C:\ and C:\Windows directories.
They are named:
C:\Logo.sys (Startup Screen), C:\Windows\Logos.sys (Shutdown Screen), and C:\Windows\Logow.sys (Wait Screen).

Be sure to rename your original sys files in case you want to change them back.

green globe Once your original files have been renamed, simply copy our .sys files, found in
C:\Program Files\Plus!\themes\StarKnight Theme\, into the appropriate directory.

StarKnight Screensaver
green globe Merchant Hezekiah made this screensaver. We'll call this the beta version because it doesn't have an installation program. Hez is still working on this. In the meantime, here are some instructions:

StarKnights Screensaver

Create a directory called SKScreensaver and download the program in it. Run the program. Move the SKScreensaver.ini file and the .scr file to your C:\Windows directory. That's it, now go change your screensaver in the control panel.
